Hollybeck Nurseries was founded by Richard Cartwright as a bulb importer and a market trader in the early 1960’s. Originally a Lincolnshire man, his contacts with farmers and growers in the region developed into a successful business supplying local markets and wholesalers. Many of these same growers are still used today.
Richard and his wife, Roslyn, purchased the existing site over 30 years ago but concentrated their efforts on wholesaling plants and flowers until their semi-retirement in 1999, when Roslyn began to develop the site for retail plant sales which has grown over the years.
Most people ’found’ the nursery by ‘word of mouth’, often getting lost on the way. But once found never forgotten! Many customers come from out of the region just to pay us a visit on there way past.
By 2005 the nursery was becoming a 365 day operation,Mr & Mrs Cartwright took the sad decision to sell the nursery to Trudy & Chris (Daughter & Son in Law) in the later part of 2005 Their retirement plan was a little too sucessful and they realised that fresh blood was needed for the business to carry on.
The Nursery was sold to their daughter and son in law Trudy & Chris in early 2006 with their excellent horticultural knowledge and management skills, the nursery has gone from strength to strength with a new extension in 2008, the site is growing with its popularity.
Trudy & Chris wish Hollybeck Nurseries remain horticulturally based and to provide core gardening products for the amateur and Professional gardener. |
